Markus, Your doing a nice job on the figure. That's a great photo to use as a basis for a figure. The pose of the figure and supporting groundwork lends itself well to such a project.~Gary

    Markus,

As we say here in Holland, you did the laundry before i did.
Because i wanted to learn sculping i had choosen this picture also. Now i seen yours i much change my project.
In my opinion: When sculpting you creating a figure that nobody has or can buy (when it is not commercial).
So you did a great job with this project so far. (y)

Markus - Great subject for a diorama! It's so FRENCH! Wonderful sculpting!

I'm looking forward to see how you deal with the bicycle and the Poilu's thin droopy moustache.

    All the best,
    Dan

    Markus,
GREAT STUFF! I like the fact that you are doing something french! A subject not done often enough! It looks great so far, keep us posted on this one. You have picked a nice picture to work from, nice and simple. I like the bike and the small bit of equipment scattered about.

    Wonderful work, Markus!!

Are you going to be using a "stock" head or sculpting your own?

Markus you have started my dream project !

I want to do this scene in 54mm since I saw the old colour photo but the bike and the column has kept me off.

I will watch this thread with anticipation :)

Markus and Ulrich: I agree this photo is one of the classic WWI images. There are many more images from illustrations, photos, paintings, that, at least for me, qualify as "classic". I'm sure if we started posting some of them, you'd see a similar reaction from my fellow WWI 'nuts'.

I look forward to seeing the entire diorama complete and, hopefully, in future figure competitions.

    All the best,
    Dan

    Hello Friends,

first I want to thank you all for your feedback and your kind comments. I really appreciate it.

About the bike: It seems so, that there is a bike available that could be used for this project....that would be very nice.

About the head: The basic was a Preiser head. I sharpened the eyes with my exacto blade, cut away the chin, the mouth, the cheekbones and the eyebrows and resculpted them. I tried to sculpt the moustache as close as possible to the one at the pic.... :( Then is sculpted the helmet - it isn`t finished yet. I have to sand it a little and then we will see....

    The best wishes,
    Markus
