Line infantry & Chasseurs a pied. 30mm flats engraved by Johannes Frauendorf (1889-1972) They don't make'em like this anymore, old is good in the flat world. ;)

Nice little set indeed. These engravings are older than me, but they look in a better state..

Looking good Roger, the blue is especially well handled (consistent tone with all figures) - nice presentation too! (y)

I have always admired flats and the ways to display them. These are terrific, lovely painting and a good display.
    Nice one Roger

Thanks very much Rich. I did initially think the plain grass groundwork was a bit boring then thought it might be suited to soldiers standing around not doing much. :)

    Very nice group Roger
It must be the reverse of round figures where generally the quality is better now than years gone by.
How long have you had them under your charge?

Even way back a flat editor would find the best engraver and designer for his chosen subject and go to great lengths to research that subject. A lot of these figures were never intended for a mass market just for a few collectors and enthusiasts. Good figures can still be produced from the old stones if they have been maintained and looked after properly.
There's an interesting article about Frauendorf here, http://www.zinnfiguren-bleifiguren....g_Uebigau/Frauendorf_Leipzig_Uebigau.html#Top
It's possible to read it using an online translator but heavy going in places.

I got these particular figures from German Ebay last trip at sea.

That would be the French infantry by the time of the Battle od Sedan, right?
