    I don't know if these are tips but this is how I did it.
    It's painted in oil over an acrylic undercoat.
    I blended the shadow and the base color while they are wet.
    And once it's dry, I applied layers of glazing as highlight / shadow at the dark areas (i.e. around the eyes) until I have the desired contrast.

    Many thanks ,I paint in oils top coat , with Humbrol enamel under coat .
    Will give the glazing / highlights ago , blending them .

    Great finish , like the blues and the headwear

    I think possibly push the highs a little more on the gold lace but that's only my thought

    I do agree with Nap's observation, if you push those gold highlights mate, you change a nice piece to a wow piece.
