    Hi Guys ,

After my review of this recent release from Ellie's Miniatures , I decided to get it on the bench , looking at the references I also wanted to change a few things to get a closer representation.

So after nearly 2 days of magisculpt eating I had...

Reworked all the medals after dremelling off the original , this was my choice !!! I started with a blank canvas again and put all the lacework back on adding an additional one just under the left arm , then came the medals themselves ...a lot more details will be shown with the painting .

    000.jpg Dupin 001.jpg

I also added some decoration at the back
    0000.jpg Dupin 003.jpg

I detailed up the pistol , replacing the ramrod with a suitable sized pin and adding a carrying ring on the handle as well as drilling the barrel.

    Dupin 005.jpg

I also added a bit of decoration around the sombrero and some lacing around the collar using fine lead strip.

    Dupin 009.jpg Dupin 007.jpg

    and the shoulder cording .

    00000.jpg Dupin 002.jpg

These are a couple of my main references:

These are :Crimean medal , ( UK) (the reference shows 3 clasps) , the Mexican Expedition (French) , Italian Campaign(French) ,China Medal (French)

    Bottom Row from the left

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

These are : Cross of St Maurice and Lazarus (Sardinia) , Order of Medjidie (Turkey) , Valour Medal (Sardinia)

The state of play at the moment...

Arms both in position , head in place , on base ..all ready for priming and base coating

I will try and updated whenever possible

    Thanks for looking in

A superb work, sculpture and documentation.(y)
The illustration representing the Colonel, it seems he wears the Legion of Honor around the neck, so the rank of "Commandeur".(n)

Photo contradicts illustration and makes more sense.
I had not noticed the first time I saw the bust.
The order of the medals is more logical in the photo.
The French first medals are in first as provided military regulations.
We can try to recognize in order :
Legion d'Honneur (around the neck- "Commandeur " rank), the Mexican Expedition , Italian Campaign or China Medal, Crimean medal ,Order of Medjidie, Cross of St Maurice and Lazarus and Valour Medal (Sardinia)
So Nap a trip to the pharmacy for the stock of Valium, Xanax ...:D;):nailbiting:

That hat doesnt sit right on his head, easy to fix. Judging by review pictures you will need to fix sleeve clover pipings too.

Otherwise you must be really enjoying the medals ;)

Well Nap you went to town on this one a little bit LOL. Their are so many variations on him from Photos to painting and each one has it's own merits but pinning down to one to produce a bust was a nightmare for both Moz and Us. so we settled on what was released.

Have to say the medals were the one thing that did cause us a problem or two lol. but it worked out in the end. you are a brave man to change the whole line up nap but have to say it worked out well and a joy to look at well done mate.

we are watching with interest as to how this one turns out.

    Cheers

As we never wore this kind of headdress in the Belgian army I'm far from being an expert in this matter, but what Gaudin mentions might be this:
    225394-4e6ec04187367fc5aa5f5495cb26ffc2.png

The sombrero seems to be shifted too far to the rear:(

    Keep it going Nap!

Good thing neck came away cleanly but head was pinned and glued ...so that needs replacing as well !

Now I can get to the neck for th Commander Legion of Honneur !!!

Thanks for the input always welcome

To try to be simple, the French military regulations concerning medals is pretty clear.
The order is as follows (from right to left starting at the top):
Legion of Honor, Ordre National du Mérite, medaille militaire, Croix de Guerre (several types), medals campaigns date obtained or seniority of the campaign.
Next come the foreign medals, according to their seniority, but sometimes according to their value, sometimes also by country !!!!
But the military medal can be worn before any others?
Another feature, the order of liberation no one can receive it now, it can be worn before any medal or after the Legion of Honour.
    You follow me ?
    I made it simple !!!!
But a soldier can receive French and foreign civil medals, there it is complicated, so we will avoid the subject.:bored:
This is what it can give:
For one of our most celebrated generals, General Bigeard:

What about a bust of Général Bigeard with beret of course and wearing the full version of all his medals/decorations? I hope to see this one day before my eyesight fails to paint them!
