    As we said only yesterday at Bolton model show Mat;
the book vanished armies Is one of my top ten books for drooling over with a coffee.

Far better entertainment than many a tv channel.
repeats of this haven't got me fed up yet.

A great suggestion for this thread.

I'm not convinced that what I am posting here today follows this thread properly/purely roger so i'm going to start a new one

we are surrounded in our lives with some wonderful public bronze and marble memoria to the fallen.
I think they are more than worthy of our accreditation as art and in most cases touch emotions that other forms of art cannot.
therefore I would like to submit all our war memorials as one entry in this thread, in the same way that the unknown soldier who is honoured each year represents all the fallen and missing.

Great idea Paul, I've seen some fantastic memorials on my travels and look forward to contributing.

The walker art gallery liverpool Pre-raphaelite collection contains this wonderul oil on board panel. 30 x 20 inch the deatil is exquisite, every blade of grass, blossom leaf and strip of bark is rendered in incredible detail as are the fabric and hair. In my opinion, a genuine masterpiece
It is called 'The Little Foot Page' by Eleanor Fortesque Brickdale 1905.
    I hope you like it

I wanted to post this painting not for the quality of it per se but the sentiment contained within the frame
This was painted by James Campbell, a follower of the Pre-rapaelite brotherhood between 1858/9.
Titled ' News from my lad '
The letter held by the subject actually reads:-
    "Lucknow March 1858.
My dear old Daddy, I dare say you will read this in the old shop
and here am I under the burning sun of India".

I hope you like it, it could almost be a figure vignette.

    5thFoot Richard Simkin

I have just come to this page and what a read, as you do whilst the plaint is drying, we browse the inter web. To cut out the middle bit, I came to this site.

    repository.library.brown.edu/studio/

On the search, I typed Simkin and came up with 300 odd water colour pictures. Harry Payne, came up with 134. I am still looking and am amazed at the wide variety of subjects.
