    Hi Planeteers,

I read that British military horses were branded on the left hind quarter with an upward broad arrow, and marked on the front hoofs with regt initials (right hoof) and actual number (left hoof).

Are there any further pictures or documentations on these?

Interestingly I have my granddads diary from August 1914 ,he served with his brother in the 4th Hussars , Mons and usual stuff up to July 1915 , but in the diary he refers to his charger by a double figure number ie 59 , fits in with the information you have.
