I've put the finishing touches to this yesterday after a couple of months work. I still need to find a suitable frame and perhaps paint a background.

Nice one Rog, I'd seriously look at those Wilco's frames mate they are pretty well made and might suit that a treat

    Thanks Steve.
I'll have a look next time I'm in Northallerton. There was some nice box frames in Hobbycraft in Aberdeen but the ones they had left were to big for this.

Cheers Steve, that looks the ticket.

I think that sailor is shouting for a background to be painted!
You could even try to sculpt some volumetric waves with artificial water and detach a little the background and flat on two diferent planes.
That would give a cool 3d feeling to the piece...

It's not as though you'll struggle for reference for the background,;)

    Really good work Roger.
Is this a work in progress of you at work Mate (ie self portrait)?
Strange I expected the vessel you worked on to be a little more up to date.
Seriously though I really like your painting style on these flats.
I am still struggling with my Chasseur de Cheval but I will get there......one way or another.
    All the best,
    Keith

Thank you Carl, yep I've a pretty good idea what a rough sea looks like. :D

Thank you Marc. A photo would be a good idea but I quite like the idea of painting one myself perhaps with pastels and it is something I can do at sea.

Cheers Keith. You picked a pretty difficult figure to paint but a good pose to play around with the all important light and shade, I'm looking forward to seeing how you're getting on with it.

Of course you could do as J.M.W. Turner did and tie yourself to the mast in a force 10 to make your sketches:eek:.
    Cheers,
