This is an idea i had after sculpting the 54mm carpet seller for my napoleonic Egytian street scene, i decided to make this figure into a 90mm version and to make him a street seller of varying items rather than just carpets and rugs.

I find 90mm a very pleasing scale to work in and plan further figures in this scale.

I think I bought a model Sphinx off him. Cracking job Steve, a nice challenge for the brushes.

Great sculpting Steve. It seems you've really found your scale with 90mm. Excellent details on the lion skin and the head cloth. The face is awesome.

Can't wait to see it painted.

Steve i must admit i am jealous of you . Beeing able to sculpt your own figures out of zero , gives you a lot of options for scenes vigniettes or anything you can be inspired of. I find your piece very very good, and i congratulate you for your clean and detailed work !

    Hello my friend:

Well, the accolades are rolling in; and they are certainly deserved. And I
want to cast my vote in appreciation of your talent as well. As I've said
in our correspondence, I feel this is one of your most interesting figures.
You pick subject matter that is different, that we don't see a lot. And for
me personally, it seems to draw me more into your sculpting subjects, as
they really attract my attention. . . away from the norm, so to speak.

Very clever making the Merchant NOT from Venice progress from a
carpet seller into A Man for All Seasons who wears what he sells. It allows
the painter to really expand their colour palette and create a presentation
with all kinds of what we silly Yankees call "Eye Candy"!!

Well done, and congratulations to you, my amigo,

    Great sculpt Steve,
reminds me very much of the works of Jean-Leon Gerome.

Jamie thanks for the words on the figure mate, yes the works of Jean-Leon Gerome have influenced this piece heavily, its very inspiring looking at his work on oriental subject matter.
