new project... not a superior officer but a simple line lancer ...

start is a painting from Eugene Leliepvre found on a cover of Campaign magazine depicting a Line lancer watching around in alert
    leliepvre.jpg

beautiful painting and very evocative ...

I started form an Historex horse because the position and because a little longer legs compared with MM range
    4° lanceri di linea (1).jpg

After a long job with putty to close the cut I made the saddle ( sheepskin) in different steps. for the front part I took pieces from mounted hussar kit, they are of the same shape as requested .
the rider is the Metal Modeles lancer cutted at the hips level and turned to left side to match the painting

As ever Ivo another beautiful interpretation of an iconic subject. Fascinating to see your conversion work in progress. I see you replaced the Historex horses face and hooves - where did you get these parts from?
I look forward to seeing more.

    Cheers

I think you should bend the horse's head slightly to the right to give it more movement and be more similar to the original.

    At least seeing the photos.

I will follow with interest as always

    Hi Ivo

Can't comment on the sculpting all I know is that this may "only" be a trooper but it's going to be a great piece of work

Also made me get out my full set of campaigns ...great to revisit

    we could continue...

terracotta milliput has been used to fill the cut, to sculpts the arms and modify the trousers
4° lanceri di linea (13).jpg 4° lanceri di linea (17).jpg
to make the mane I placed some clay in position and over it I sculpted the flying mane. After the putty dry I leaved the clay

4° lanceri di linea (18).jpg 4° lanceri di linea (19).jpg

to give strength to the spear I drilled the existing part and placed a 1 mm pin inside. Rod of the spear was a 1,5mm tube cutted in the correct length
    4° lanceri di linea (26).jpg

I normally use different materials and in this case electrical tape has been use for the lace on the trousers. the flexibility of this material help when we have to fix it pn the sculpted parts.
Copper was used for the reins

Super conversion Ivo ,and daring stuff cutting a Bruno casting in half :) Great idea using the MM hooves and front part of the sheepskin , which MM hussar kit does these parts come separate on .
I have probably asked this before ; but where do you get the copper sheet foil from .

    hi Ron

the front sheepskin comes from any mounted hussar kit ( obviously not from the officer with panther skin and saddle cloth)

I've bought my foil ( to be cut) in an art shop. Copper foil are used to be carved from kids

I just can't find copper foil anywhere the right thickness , also Tommi has tried in vein to get the right stuff .
Did Bruno sell you those saddle parts separate or did you have to buy the whole kit.
