I have the Metal Modeles fig of the 10th Hussars elite company 1808 but I want to paint him up as 4th hussars.
Is the pattern of trousers peculier to the 10th or was this pattern worn by all Hussars

Hi there, these overalls with the leather inserts were common light cavalry issue
and could be worn not just by hussars but chasseurs a cheval and lancers, horse artillery and light cavalry and artillery of the guard too.
Sometimes they where in grey with black or brown leather inserts.
The zig zag edges were also not always trimmed in a colored line.
    So anyone, anywhere, any regiment.
You could even paint them in the colour of another regiment.
Soldiers who were not issued them could take them after an action from
someone else "who didn't need them any more".
The above figure could be seen on campaign in green overalls for example,
    or even deep royal blue.
Have fun, you may also remove the plume as he is in campaign dress
    and just leave the pom-pom.

    Thanks for that Peedee,
I get so confused with all the regs and non-reg items worn by light cavalry. I might leave the plume as its black with a red tip. I have started to paint him but have changed him to 8th Hussars 1809.
I did have a book somewhere on Hussars but that must have got lost in the move.
    Thanks again

    Sounds great,
I look forward to seeing the finished item,
    Napoleonics are my favourites.
I remain convinced that if you painted a napoleonic
French cavalryman in what. YOU think are invented
colours chosen at random from dark and/ light blue,
dark green or red and with white or yellow trim,
    someone will say
"Ooh I do love that scheme, The ninety twelfth is my favourite regiment"!
As an example here's one of my favourites,
it's a real uniform and look at his legwear ha haaaar !!

    Thanks Paul.
I have started to paint him, Plume is off, it looks better, the leather on the trousers is painted and not painted the dogtooth pattern.
Will have to post another photo soon, Its under the title 10th Hussars.
I must admit your figure looks very gaudy but thats how the French liked it. Superb paint job.

    Thanks again

Oh sorry that's not mine !
It's the box art from a 'deju vu' figure from 'art girona' or 'historex agents'

My bad I meant This week it's my favoutite uniform,
( He's an ADC to a cavalry general I think),
army of the Kingdom of italy.
    But yeah chocolate box uniform.
I am painting a hussar as it happens
but it's a 'Stormtrooper Ltd' german hussar regt Nr4
von Schill 1870. I'll post it as WIP friday.

I know I commented earlier on the WIP bob,
    But nice choice of colours.
The pom-pom rather than full plume looks more
    'Campaign Proper' to me.

Sorry for being somewhat late on this one.
Just for future reference, "La Cavalerie Legere du Premier Empire" by Michel Petard-Rigo (Histoire & Collections) has the following table for campaign overalls:-
