    Hi pF,

Would like to seek some critique/comments on the idea for the basework. The subject is mercenary from the Renaissance,15th Century.

Made a small scene of said subject standing by a low wall made of cork. Decided against having the hand gun slung over his shoulder which would hide the weapon from view. Leaning it against the wall seems like a better choice. Will be adding some grass/moss along the bottom part of the wall. On the reverse side would be adding more flowers to balance up. On the top of the wall, will be placing some "bullets/balls" for the hand gun.

Thanks in advance for the critique/comments/ideas !

I like your figure very much. Very eye catching and
full of detail, re the armour and the weapon. However,
The size, volume, mass of the wall behind, in my view,
is too great. That wall, as I see it takes the viewer's eye
somewhat away from the figure. Perhaps a smaller
wall, shorter, . . . or perhaps a wood fence would be
something to consider. Regardless, I will follow this
project with interest. Kind regards, Jayhawk

Hi Jayhawk, yes i felt the low wall could do with some thinning. Maybe some asymmetry to the wall would reduce its bulk. I do intend to include some creepers/weeds to break up the length of the wall. So that should reduce the bulk further. Anyway i am making it up as i go along ;)

Good to see you back Benjamin, and moving to other eras as well.
Great work so far. The wall looks quite real and not too dominant actually.

    Cheers,

Great job up to now, it could due to the picture but there is a poor contrast between the wall and the figure in front. If it is possible try to get the wall more light (IMO).
    I'll follow your progress.

Lovely work though I think a bit more of a 5'o'clock shadow would enhance the face.

    Cheers
