My photobucket account will no longer allow third party hosting. I.e. Posting links . Changes to terms and conditions will eventually affect us all unless we pay lots of money to photobucket.

Can anybody suggest an alternative please?

All my pictures are ready to by relinked

    Andrew.

You can upload photos direct on this site using the image up load function when creating a new thread.

I have the Plus50 account, and I wondered why I haven't gotten the email and why my images still work. Today I found the answer at Photobucket: http://blog.photobucket.com/please-review-latest-changes-photobucket/

If you have a paid account other than the Plus500, you have till the end of 2018 to decide what you want to do. PB will continue to provide 3rd-party hosting to the other paid customers till that time, provided you keep your subscription current, which I take to mean, we pay our subscriptions next year. That gives those of us with the paid accounts more time to get settled.

Personally, I have never had a problem with Photobucket, except for one. I had the free account from 2008 through the end of 2015. At that point, I had maxed out the free space, so I took the basic paid account. It was after that, that PB increased the popup ads that have irritated so many users. But if you have a paid account, you don't get the ads. That brings me to the one problem: At work, our web filter is set to filter out ad content--for a while, I couldn't get here, for example, because we had ads for an online gaming site, and the filter blocked the whole forum. Anyway, those popup ads cause the filter to block the linked images outright, or to cause them to take so long to load that they never load successfully. But that is only a problem when I surf at lunch, from my desk, logged in to our network. From home, not a problem.

But it looks like I will need to find another host, like everyone else.

    Prost!

Ive never understood the vagaries of PB - all I know is when I installed it on my old laptop it completely screwed up all my graphics programmes and meant they were unusable. I just upload stuff straight to this site....(y)

I don't fault any for-profit company for trying to make as much money as it can. That's its duty to its shareholders or other stakeholders. But I do concede that they handled this badly, from a customer service perspective, and it remains to be seen what impact this will have on PB's long-term business. Some analyst must have reported that they can force their current paying customers to take an account that costs far more than they have been willing to pay up to now, without a loss. Through personal experience working with marketing analysts over thirty years, though, I am always skeptical, because most of them weren't worth their salt, and there is a common tendency to tell senior management what the analysts think it wants to hear. If I were the officer who took this advice, I'd have been inclined to tell 'em, "Don't piss down my back and tell me it's rainin'."

I'm leaning towards Fotki at this point.

That's true, but there is a problem for those of us who belong to multiple forums, and that's that not all of them allow attaching files, requiring image hosting, and those that do allow attaching images, have different specs for file and image size. I belong to nine or ten different scale modeling and figure forums, where I post.

A couple of those don't allow attaching files at all. I understand why they don't--it's an issue of file storage space for the particular forum. So, images there must be linked.

For the others, each one has different requirements, and that means I have to rework my image files if I want to share them with this or that forum. It is far easier to load them to a host and link them back.

Well, we can donate to the Planet, regardless of our choice of file hosts, naturally ;) But we still need a place to host images.

    Prost!

Photobucket is/was a pile of shite!!!

I only ever used it as a last resort and found it incredibly user-unfriendly. And now with their new "business model" they can F.R.O. as far as I'm concerned.

I'm trialling a new host called Smugmug ( www.smugmug.com) they offer a 14 day free trial and their basic plan works out about $48 USD annually for unlimited non commercial use. I think that is pretty reasonable as I was already a paid up (adfree) member of PB - my photos are still linked but I guess when my current subs expire in 2018 all my photos will go the way of others.

Photobucket is claiming people are using Ad. Blocker so that they are not making any money from ads.
I also switch to imgur and is better than Photobucket.
Here is my tutorial on how to upload images in imgur to PF forum post.

If you're a paying PB customer, you have till the end of 2018 to find an alternative. They will continue to provide hosting to the paid accounts till then, provided you keep your account current, ie, pay up through 2018.

I found that info via link in a banner that they now have at the top of their pages.

    Prost!
