HELP Painting Silk effect.

    Greetings All.

I paint in acrylics, I would like to paint a black silk effect on a neck clothe and Tarleton Helmet Tuban.
I have tried to undercoat with a Dark Prussian Blue with light washes of black. It doesn't look to bad but its not right,
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Seem to remember seeing a couple of SBS somewhere using metallized paint for shiny effects - i.e. vinyl and rubber. I'd be interested to hear what other people suggest. A picture of what you've achieved so far might be helpful.

Perhaps another thought is have your base black in place and then use 'Vallejo ink', these dry with a satin finish. Some tinkering maybe required.;)

However! Why silk up the cloth? I would have thought glossing up of the metal part of the helmet and the visor would be more appropriate.:cautious:

    Mark,
Thought I would silk up the turban as there is a lot of black I know I can do a little bit in the shell and visor and as the comb is bear skin that will have brown in it.

Always open to suggestions . and lots and lots of help.

However, it is looking very good!(y) Personally I would leave the turban matt and shine up the shell/visor. That would surely give contrast between the two black's.

You could try applying a little bit of satin varnish to the highlight areas.

Pin wash equates to a controlled flow of diluted paint into and around specific details....as opposed to an all over wash/glaze :LOL:

Ok....pin wash for dummies coming up......if you look closely at the picture you posted above (the helmet)....you will see that there are very fine shadow lines under and around the raised details......
Thin some paint (very thin)...then...using a fine pointed brush....hold the tip against the detail and the paint will flow around the raised detail by capillary action alone.....
Oh shit....now he will ask what "capillary action' is :arghh:

Before you ask Mr Nuts....think of capillary action as gravity for liquids
