Celebrating the centenary of the tragedy that marked the mechanization of death, Tommy's war is releasing one of the most noble acts of the great war proving that mankind will always prefer peace:

The spontaneous Christmas Truce of 1914, when German and British youngs left the trenches to salute themselves mutually and even played football games in the land of nowhere:

Just the right piece for these times. Let no one forget these unsung heroes that after all were human as well.

At a time when such tragic events are unfolding in the world this is a reminder that we can get on with one another and set our differences to one side.

    A very powerful vignette.

Peace on Earth to all man kind.

    Peter.

I have never been able to determine whether there was actually snow on the ground at the time of the Christmas Truce? Does anyone know the answer? I visited the scene of a portion of the Truce in the Ypres Salient a few years ago. There is a decent book on the subject as well but no mention as to the weather conditions other tha it was cold. Thoughts?
