Count me in if a SYW group build/paint includes flats, I have a couple of candidates. :)

    Done.
With your first love being flats though roger, it's gonna have to be restricted to be a sitting down drummer though at the least, to be fair.
Because the idea was matt and I are gonna have a go at 'making the statue' as a conversion or new sculpt
Will that be ok for you ?

I have a standing up drummer I could paint and then throw it in at the end as a kind of hijack. :D

    Ha ha ha
    Right ok then,
how about just drummers then, any way up, and I have a pair of
Timpani kettledrums in 54mm if anyone feels particularly bonkers !

I'll post this as a new thread at the start of december, to begin in January 2015.
What sort of time limit do you think we should we put on this then lads?

I'm back at work the beginning of January but don't mind me I'll catch up. I think a group paint/build with the subject of 18th cent. military drummers would be a nice idea. Lots of lace and mitre caps.... great!!!

That's what I really wanted to see, us doing probably one of each of say the minden regiments or one of each at blenheim or similar,
With all that colour and all them mitrecaps , cor, drooling already mate.
But if others would only do french or flats, or royal marine drummer portsmouth 1990 or whatever, who cares, it would still be all good.
What do you think guys ?

Sounds good to me - id suggest 18th century military drummers (but maybe only up to 1789 so avoiding Napoleonics creeping in?). I'd like to see all sorts but think I will try and stick to recreating the dettingen grenadier statue at the start of this thread.
    Cheers

Yes Mat that's what I will do as well, that's where we started.
I wouldn't want to stop anyone joining in though, it would be lovely if we could get
all the different versions of the statue, one for each Dettingen Regiment, wouldn't it?
Mine will be as the 10th Foot for the King's Liverpool Regiment.
    What about you?
    Paul.

    Hi Paul
Think I will need to do a bit of research to choose any particular regiment. Just looking now and Wikipedia says the Liverpool Kings were the 8th (kings) regiment of foot?
Also about the sculpture I found out it was done by Goscombe John who was from Cardiff so there's the connection to the version I saw last week. Seems like he did quite a few fine memorial sculptures etc - here's the link

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goscombe_John

I often think when seeing these statues what a great reference they would make if good pictures of them were collected together somewhere.

    Cheers

Sorry yes I knew it was the 8th Foot. I have no idea why I typed that.
On their memorial either side of this drummer is engraved all the marllburian battles. Fought in, 'Ramillies, Oudenarde Malplaquet Blenheim Dettingen" and whilst dettingen was an important battle it is Blenheim and Minden that the foot regiments take most pride in as battle honours.
At dettingen the british line was pushed back, but at the others they were the rock steady volley firing lines we expect of them.
There were 9 regiments present at all the battles (with the successor British army unit which still uphold their traditions) were:
8th foot (kings liverpool regiment) now part of the duke of lancaster's regt was not one of those, they are referred to as the minden regiments.

    The minden regiments are:-

12th of Foot (Suffolk Regiment), now part of The Royal Anglian Regiment

20th Foot (Lancashire Fusiliers), now part of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers

23rd Foot (Royal Welch Fusiliers), now the 1st Battalion, The Royal Welsh (Royal Welch Fusiliers)

25th Foot (King's Own Scottish Borderers), now The Royal Scots Borderers (1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland)

37th Foot (Royal Hampshire Regiment), now part of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment

51st Foot (King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry), now part of The Rifles

The descendents of these units are still known as "the Minden Regiments."

Incidentally Minden day is the reason 1st August was chosen as Yorkshire Day, or so I'm led to believe.

Wow you really know your regiments Paul.
Would all of these had grenadier companies or drummers with mitres then?
I was thinking of doing the 20th as I'm living in Lancashire and the Fusiliers Museum is just down the road from me in Bury.

With regard to the museum, will do

I'm a member of the Bolton club and it's the first model show of the year, every year in the north.
The venue is also where we meet 2nd Thursday eve, every month. St Joseph's school, Chorley Old road Bolton.

I'm also a member of Kitmaker uk (British Bulldogs) online club.
If you Make it to Telford Look for the club stand with a poppy wreath on top. We are in hall one .
We all wear blue, and Peedee's ya man please say howdy.
