I think you could probably get away with just your current lens. If you want to get a special macro lens I'm sure it wouldn't hurt, but I don't think you need to spend the money. There was a nice article on MassiveVoodoo comparing a simple point and shoot with an entry level DSLR and a high-end DSLR. Sure, there's a difference in the end results but it's not nearly as big as you'd think. Your overall photo setup probably plays a bigger part in how things look. The second link gives you a good overview of how to take good pictures. Oddly enough one of the tips is don't use your macro-mode... so I'm guessing they would advise against the special macro lens. The final link is a quick and cheap way to make your own photo-box. I would give these a read before you make a decision on the macro lens.

Hi Michael, I do still have the Tamron Macro lens for the D3100......it actually cost almost as much as the camera.......to be honest, I rarely use it on figures....too revealing....
If you want more info...PM me....

    cheers

If you read the Massive Voodoo advice it does actually advise against using the macro setting on your camera, I've used it myself and it's awful. Much better to use a tripod and normal settings.

Can you give me an idea, as to where on 'Massive Voodoo', that this article is located ?? ..as I am not overly sure that I can agree with such a sweeping statement ! from one company.

    Regards,

    Mark
