    ....Moonlight flight"

Well that's my intent anyway, to convey the feeling that Amy is out flying under a bright, full moon.

This is the superb bass relief from Rich Sculpts, and I hope I did it justice. I figured I would solicit thoughts, concerns, and recommendations from the Planet Figure family before I place her in a frame.

I eagerly wait for your critique!

Lovely work Joe. A clever idea and very well executed. I really like the merest hint of colour. (y)

Very fine work indeed, and I agree on the remark re the merest hint of colour. I also think the interpretation of colour in moonlight is very believable.

The only thing I would change is to increase the shadows - when walking in moonlight (even a full moon) the shadows are always very pronounced, near black. And perhaps have the background also much darker, so that the bass-relief pops out even more.

But that is just my two pennies...

    Thanks John!

I strove to maintain a smoothness on her face especially.

    Thank you Roger!

I spent many hours looking at pictures on the internet and also going outside during the full moon:D!

    I appreciate your comments L.H.!

Excellent points that I have been considering. The background you see in the pic above is just a piece of cardboard that I have Amy stuck to so that I don't hold the sculpt directly. I have been toying with the idea of making two backgrounds to see which looks the best. One really black and the other ever so slightly lighter than the sculpt. Both with perhaps a few stars behind and over her head.

    Thanks Rich!

I was really worried that you would be insulted by me making Amy look like a vampire or something, and that you would not send me anymore of your sculpts :D!

From the get go I wanted to try something different, something that I hadn't done before. I thought of putting reflected light from the instruments as if glowing from her lower front, but shied away from it. I don't know how bright or what color the instrument lighting was in those aircraft. Was it green, yellow, red, gosh she would look like a vampire then:nailbiting:!

Thanks again for your comments and it means a lot to have the approval from the sculptor!

Here is a little update folks.

Based on recommendations I went ahead and added some subtle shadow to her cap, coat and face. Namely her chin and left cheek.

The first pic is with the desk lamp on and the second is with the lamp off. The light comes from the ceiling fan that is behind me.

    Hi Joe,
Personally mate I would not go with any enhanced background with stars or anything else, keep it a nice simple dark background. The second photo really does elevate your work and brings out the real beauty in both the sculpt and painting, so why detract from this.

I would like to see this photographed as the second picture but on a pure black background.
    cheers

I appreciate it Ritchie, your thoughts on this make a lot of sense. Currently I'm searching for a suitable frame. When I get Amy done up I'll post her in the completed forum.

    Hi Joe,
Why not try to find a nice suitable art deco frame, fits right in with the period. You can go wall mounting or free standing such as below. You can even get double free standing frames, you art work adjacent to a real photo of Amy Johnson! The possibilities in art deco style are huge, but at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference.
What ever you decide Joe, Carl summed it up Superb.
    cheers
    Richie
