a figure that sort from my usual field. A subject that I wanted to do since many years.

the brilliant document made by Jean Claude Colrat from Le Briquet ( a french historical association) was the key point to start the project. Jean Claude started from an original picture.
Lovely picture of the very distinguished gent Risaldar-Major Abdul Gaffar Khan 1903.jpg Risaldar Major Abdul Gaffar Khan.jpg

the figure was done in Historex and scratch sculpting all the figure except the head

    Stunning work, simply stunning work
I really like the colors of the horse. It's a very dark brown, almost black. At the moment I'm trying to paint a black horse, but I'm not satisfied.
That's why I would ask you Ivo, can you share the mix of the horse.

quite difficult answer but... forget the black
to paint a black horse is better to manage dark brown mixed with ivory balck and highlighted with flesh or yellowish coulors.
can be useful also add some dark violet.
the reddish part in my horse were made with mars red plus burnt sienna

    Thanks Ivo.
I used sepia with ivory black and highlighted it with fleshcolor oilpaint from Mussini (Schmincke)
gonna try aagian and add some dark violet. Yellowish colors are.......from the yellow line, naples yellow line, or some ochre's????

yellow ochre is better but is important that you decide which tone you want to obtain.
