Hi to all on this wonderful planet of ours ,

Its my great pleasure to be able to share this review from Historia Miniatures (owned by one of our community ..Christos )

As the header says its a Confederate Soldier circa 1864 as always lets have a little bit of information on these dedicated and hard fighting men , despite many coming from varied backgrounds thesy were proud and seasoned campaigners of all ages from young country boys to city gents ...all served together fro a common cause .

The war had been fought hard for many a year and in 1864 and supply was at the best haphazard , often not helped by Quartermasters sat in depots with more concern for Southern whisky rather than the Southern boys in the field.

The Army was at this stage lucky to be clothed in anything resembling a uniform , if he was lucky he had a sackcloth jacket worn often with civilian garments ..the soldier of 1864 was very used to getting the needle and cotton out , often resulting in them looking like a patchwork quilt , despite this they never lost their beliefs or fighting spirit.

Pleasure and relaxation time was limited with the puffing of a treasured pipe alongside his comrades being the most a soldier could often look forward to.

    Hi guys ,

    Now then lets have some information on the model itself;

    Title: Confederate Soldier 1864

    Scale: 1/12th

    Material : Resin (Gray)

    No of pieces : 5

    Sculptor : Christos Panagiotopoulos

    Box Art: Demitrios Kotronias

Casting by : YS Castings (Yiannis Sagiadinos)

The model was received very quickly immaculately packed from Christos , prior to thsi I received an e mail update regarding the shipping ....great comms from Historia. ...a good impression on your reviewer.

On oepning up the packaging I found a delightful black hard cardboard box on the cover there was a full colour picture of the box art , the box was again sealed ensuring the contents were secure .

Like a child at Christmas I opened the box with delight and my smile went deom side to side at the contents were surrounded by paper shredding , the parts were secured in a plastic bag , these being the torso , the head, the hat , the pipe and small pedastal base.

First impressions indicate that thsi is a company who take great pride in their presentation and customer service .

Moving on now to the largest of the pieces the torso:

This is a true bust with the arms ending half way down the upper arms ,he wears a coat overwhich he has a much repaired blanket (these often contained all the soldier possessed including treasured family items) , in addition to this he hasstarps crossing his body (possibly his haversack conytaining rock hard biscuits , tobacco and other campaign essentials , there is als another strap probably for his water bottle.

Preparation needed is virtually none existant apart from a very light remnant from the casting on the undersid...easily removed with the sanding blocks .

In th collar area there are 2 locating holes for the corresponding lugs on the underside of the neck .

The jacket has some really nice folds on the arms , soft and looking correct , the equiptment he carries is well defined and very sharply sculpted and cast , nice undercuts , the blanket roll is another nice area with patces added ...a great chance to get a very colourful item in contrast to the stark drabness of the jacket . .

Under his jacket he wears a shirt ..this could be any colour with civilian chequered patterns being oftem seen

Now lets have a look at the head itself:

Christos has mamaged to sculpt what looks IMO a southern country boy more at home in the cornfields rather than on a battlefield .

Prep involved is removal of a casting plug from teh top of thr head to ensure a perfect fit of his hat....and that is all that is needed....Bargain folks(y)

Our country boy has a great smirk on his face , with long hair , facial features are spot on , particular areas of note being the nose and eyes and the ears , all of which could detract from a sculpt...it certainly does not on this one , muscle tonature is well done particularly on the neck .

He has long hair this is finely done and straggly ,Yep this is a true son of the countryside.

His mouth which is also well done has a hole in the corner which holds the pipe .

On now to hsi headwear :

Our soldier has a battered hat , more than likely the one he wore in the fields , or perhaps its one he picked up from the battlefield . , prep needed a samll amount of sanding to take off a small area on the underside of the rim ..thats all .

The hat is floppy and with the brim upturned at the front , the fibish is really bice with the rim being very thin , looking totally to scale ..this is a hat that has seen all weathers and looks like it .

Fit onto the head itself is spot on and really looks the part intergrating with the haed to produce a great effect.

Finally lets have a look at the pipe and the pedastal:

The pipe is a little gem ...and small , some might like to replace thsi with a corn stalk perhaps emphasing the countryboy image , the pipe is a gracking piece of sculpting and casting , no prep needed just fit into the hole and away he puffs enjoying his favourite "baccy"

The pedastal base is a small one ,perfectly acceptable but again some might chose not to use it , if you do then I would suggest pinning it .

Now then lets have my final thoughts on this piece :

This has been well sculpted and full of chracter , depicting a soldier of a hard fought war whcih torn families apart and often rsulted in brother fighting brother .

Presentation is 1st class as was the custome service that is offered by Historia Miniatures .

This is a cracking piece of resin , and will I have no doubt grace many a competition table and beproudly displayed in the cabinet.
