I am looking for good references other than the Osprey title on Montclam's army for French Uniforms during the French and Indian War (on-line preferable). I have looked at some reenactors sites and gotten an idea, but would like more. Thanks in advance!

Richie and Martin, this confirms what I thought, thank you. My problem now is that I have this bust (French Canadian born commander of Fort Duquesne)wearing a coat with facings, which as you can see according to the boxart/painting instructions should be light blue; all of my research and references show no facings on the uniform of the Compagnies franches de la marine. BTW, the bust is fantastic, the painting instructions are crap

Hi Matthew. I usually go this forum when I need extra information about the wars in America during the XVIII century:

    Flintlock and tomahawk

Compagnie Franche de la Marines du Contrecoeur Reenacting Unit

Anyway, as Mike said, the french indian war, was the seven years war in Europe, so you can search for this reference too. At that time (1757-63) some regiments had lapels, the less, others not. Your bust is from the first class.I've scanned those images from Liliane et Fred Funcken: LÚNIFORME ET LES ARMES DES SOLDATS DE LA GUERRE EN DENTELLE.

The last two are for another source. I hope it´s helpful.

    Edorta,
Thank you for reply. Yes, I am aware that the French and Indian War and the Seven Years War are the same (My education is in American History). The link to the reenactor group further confrms what I suspected, now I just have to do with those lapels. I just noticed also on the boxart, that the waistcoat is white, it should be blue. This is a great example of why figure painters should not always trust boxart/painting instructions. Thank you for the plates as well, these will come in handy for future projects

    Matt,
Did you go to FIW website and click on Articles? If you do at the bottom of the page that comes up is an article on the Marines uniforms.

Yup. The problem I am having is the bust is sculpted with lapels and almost no French uniform of the F&I War period (certainly not the marines) had lapels. It is a great sculpt and I don't want to muck it up, so that is why I am thinking of the AWI. Anyway have to clear some space on my work bench and I am pretty sure Montcalm and the other bust will be closer to the top of the queue.
