History:
Richard I was born in Oxford in 1157, the third legitimate son of King Henry II. He was King of England and also ruled as Duke of Normandy, Duke of Aquitaine, Duke of Gascony, Lord of Ireland, Lord of Cyprus, Count of Anjou, Count of Maine, Count of Nantes and Overlord of Brittany. He was known as Richard the Lionheart because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior. At age 16, Richard was already commanding his own army, putting down rebellions in Poitou against his father. He was an crucial Christian commander during the Third Crusade, effectively leading the campaign after the departure of Philip Augustus, and scoring considerable victories against his Muslim enemy, Saladin. Interestingly enough, he spoke very little English and spent little time in his Kingdom, preferring to use it as a source of revenue to support his army. His subjects considered him a pious hero. Richard died in 1199 because of a wound that had grown gangrenous. His brain was buried at the abbey of Charroux in Poitou, his heart was buried at Rouen in Normandy, and the rest of his body was buried at the feet of his father in Anjou. He remains one of the very few Kings of England remembered by his nickname, not number, and is an enduring, iconic figure in England.

The kit comes well packed with all pieces located in the recesses in the foam which helps protect all part while in transport.

There are 13 white metal parts and a resin base. On close inspection there is no signs of any casting issues, all parts are very clean and show very minimal cleanup, the level of detail and casting is excellent and is as good as some of the other manufactures on the market.

There are three heads included with figure which give you many painting option with the figure, either King Richard, a Crusader Knight or a Templar , this is a very nice feature included in the kit. The detail on all three heads is excellent.


The two leg section fit together very snug and locate into the supplied resin base with a perfect match on the alignment holes.


The lower parts of the tunic fit exact to both legs, there is no evidence of ant filler needed. The two half’s fit together very well and locate into the base with ease.

Here we can see the top part of the torso dry fitted to the lower torso. A very good fit and when held in the hand and the parts pushed together firmly there is no evidence of any filler needed to be used.

The right arm comes as a separate piece which holds the very detailed shield. The inside of the shield has a wood grain effect sculpted into its surface and the face of the shield has the strap draped across the front, all pieces show very nice detail.

Here we can see the sword and dagger also the left hand that rests on top of the sword. The hand located into the fixed section of the left arm on the main upper torso, all parts are a good fit.

Included is the resin set of steps base.
A very nice kit well cast with a good level of detail, many painting option with the choice of three heads. Probably one of the best quality kits to come from Crecy Models, Highly Recommended.

Thanks for the review. I plan on getting this one soon. I'll be painting it as a Templar using the helm. I look forward to seeing more crusader subjects from Crecy. I love that they included different build options.

The left hand looks clubby to me...perhaps it is the way in which it is painted? So much so that I am on the fence on this one..comments on that left hand??LOLOL it seems to bug me...hope I am wrong
